The Women of March

The month of March is known as Women’s History month so I will dedicate March to some of my heavenly BFFs.  These are some of my favorite female saints that have shaped my understanding of God, and what it means to be a woman in the Catholic church.

What do you envision when you think of the BV Mary or Mother Teresa? A woman who is docile, quiet, tries to stay out of the way, doesn’t call attention to herself, correct?  Well, you are right, but that’s not the full story.  There have been women in the church that have been very outspoken and brave, even during times when women were known not to have a say in anything at all. And yes, even the BV Mary, who is super sweet and modest, kind, and quiet, did something so incredibly powerful that you will be shocked when I tell you.

So, why do I want to tell you their stories?  Well, I’m sure you have heard the argument many times about how the Catholic Church should just modernize once and for all and allow women to be priests.  I don’t agree at all!  Not because I’m a Traditionalist Catholic, because I am not. I simply think that women have a much more important job in the church that men could never do.  And I will be sharing the stories of 10 saintly women whose stories have taught me how important women are because of how they shaped the church.  They taught me to be strong, and outspoken, and to stand firm in my convictions. And to not be afraid of being a woman of faith.

I hope these ladies inspire you like they have inspired me.
